The Independent Learning Centre (ILC)
Focus: The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) is Ontario's designated provider
of distance education. Learners can take Ontario Secondary School Curriculum
(OSSC) courses – including ESL credit courses – to achieve credit toward an
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Learners submit assignments online
or via mail, complete journals to track progress, and communicate both online
and via print material with their teacher. A learner is considered full-time if four
courses are taken simultaneously.
- Must be 18 years of age or older, and not attending secondary school
- Must be a Canadian citizen, a landed immigrant, or a refugee, or an Ontario resident holding a diplomatic visa or ministerial permit
- Must live in Ontario
- If under 20 must submit Ontario Student Transcript or letter from last secondary school; if over 20 must submit official, original Ontario Student Transcript, if possible
Cost: There is a non-refundable fee of $40 for each course. This administration fee covers the loan of course and supplementary materials, evaluation by certified teachers, and a final test.
